Skin dermabrasion may be used in different cases. It may be used after an accident or a surgery which caused scars on the facial skin. Skin dermabrasion is also widely used for smoothing out fine facial wrinkles like those around the mouth. The procedure also helps remove keratoses, that is pre-cancerous growths, and cure coarse acne scars.
Skin dermabrasion may be used on separate parts of the face or on the whole face. The procedure, performed by a special dermabrasion machine, may be used alone or combined with other procedures, such as chemical peel, facelift, scar revision or removal.
Skin dermabrasion is rather a serious procedure. It makes the skin more beautiful and gives self-confidence to people. Nevertheless the treatment is not able to remove all the scars and flaws from your face. It won't prevent aging either. Thus, as the dermabrasion cost is not that low, it is necessary to think twice before having the treatment.
Everyone can benefit from the procedure of skin dermabrasion. However, there are some peculiarities of the operation. For example, older people heal more slowly. But the age is not the main factor. Much depends on the type of your skin, medical history, and coloring. For instance, Asian skin and black skin can become completely discolored or blotchy after the skin dermabrasion. A flare up can happen to those who have allergic rashes, different skin reactions, to those who are subject to fever blisters and cold sores. If a person has freckles, they can disappear from the treated area.
It is worthy of note that the doctor may refuse to make skin dermabrasion if there are acnes on the face because it may cause infection. The refusal may also follow in the case if you've been subject to radiation treatment, a serious skin burn or chemical peel.
The procedure of dermabrasion is commonly safe if it is executed by an experienced qualified specialist. Nevertheless some side effects can happen. One of the most widely spread is the change in skin pigmentation. Some patients who get exposed to the sun some time after the surgery can notice the change in skin pigmentation. It is necessary to mention that the pigmentation can be different. The skin may get either darker or lighter.
As for infections and scars, they are rather rare. Nevertheless they are possible after skin-refinishing treatments. It is possible to reduce the risk if to choose a qualified plastic surgeon and precisely follow his advice.
Sometimes the procedure of dermabrasion was executed by inadequately trained specialists. That is why it is very important to choose the doctor who is experienced and trained in the technique of the procedure. So, be careful in choosing a doctor because he will work with the most visible part of your body - your face.
At the first consultation be frank with your surgeon. Don't hesitate to tell him about your expectations from the operation. Ask questions, express concerns you may have. The doctor, in its turn, should also be sincere with you while telling about what you may expect from dermabrasion. He should also be aware of your age, skin diseases and previous plastic surgeries you had, if any.
